Science fiction has become a near-reality, thanks to Arab designer Hashem Al Ghaili. Today, ambitious video has surfaced online in the form of a flying hotel aircraft concept which would be able to carry 5000 passengers and never need to land for several years, not even for fuel.

The term ‘Air BnB’ has taken on a whole new definition.

Originally designed by Tony Holmsten before being reimagined and animated by science communicator and video producer Hashem Al-Ghaili, the ‘Sky Cruise’ is fuelled by 20 nuclear powered engines, and does not even require pilots.

“All this technology and you still want pilots? I believe it will be fully autonomous” said Al-Ghaili speaking to the Daily Star.

In the YouTube video, he explained that conventional airlines would fly passengers to and from Sky Cruise and all repair work would be carried out in the air. The aircraft is supposedly eco-friendly as its nuclear powered engine is entirely clean energy.

Al-Ghaili has declared the aircraft as the ‘future of transport’ as it will feature a panoramic hall boasting a 360 degree view of the surrounding skies. This will be connected via elevator to the main entertainment deck which will feature shopping malls, sports centres, swimming pools, restaurants, bars, children’s playgrounds, theatres and cinemas. There will also be another section to host business meetings and special events such as weddings.

Sky Cruise is equipped with the latest medical facilities and all supplies would be flown in on commercial planes from airports all over the world.

Turbulence is also not a problem as the aircraft’s command deck uses artificial intelligence to predict air turbulence minutes before it happens. When detected, the systems automatically prevent any vibrations from happening by creating anti vibrations that work similarly to noise cancelling technology and allow the Sky Cruise to travel over the vibrations in the turbulent area.

Last year, an AirCar was created which could transform from a car to a plane using a BMW engine and running on normal petrol. Imagine taking off from your street to fly up to Sky Cruise for a weekend getaway. The only problem would be that the return trip home may be a bit longer being that the sky hotel is always in motion.
