The new trailer for Kirsten Dunst’s upcoming Showtime series dropped, and the world of Florida pyramid schemes looks like an insanely terrifying one to inhabit.
On Becoming a God in Central Florida, features Dunst as Krystal Stubbs, a water park employee with adult braces who stumbles her way into a pyramid scheme that once drove her family to ruin. But from the looks of the first official trailer, she doesn’t stay that way for long.
Central Florida marks Dunst’s return to television after her Emmy-nominated turn on Fargo. But she’s traded in that thick Midwestern accent for what appears to be a perfect Florida accent and a pink ATV. The series, set in 1992, harkens back to a time with big hair and even bigger get-rich-quick schemes.
After her family’s damning first go-round working with Founders American Merchandise, Krystal seems to return with a new strategy that involves taking the cult-like company in a different direction. In the first full trailer, it appears that there’s at least one boat explosion and an alien, so buckle up because Central Florida is really leaning into that Florida man aesthetic.
On Becoming a God in Central Florida doesn’t debut on Showtime until Sunday, August 25, but it looks like a prime candidate to launch Dunst into the Emmy campaign she missed out on for Fargo. Sure Julia Roberts played a brainwashed therapist on Homecoming, but was she smoking a cigarette, cradling a baby, and gunning it on a neon colored ATV?
