A suspension of the rules of classic dressing is needed to appreciate the upcoming Moschino x H&M collection, which is styled as “Moschino [tv] H&M” and shortened as “MTV.” (How do you want to call it?)
Creative director Jeremy Scott famously sent an army of Barbies down the Moschino runway, and he threads the very same humour and look-at-me qualities in his turn for the Swedish retail mega-brand.
Done in the prevailing style of the ’90s, in particular, the hip-hop fashions of the era, the collection is filled with baggy fits, brash colours, light-wash denim, and lots of bling. And then, because this is not enough for House Moschino, everything is polished off with a layer of Disney.
See Mickey and the gang dripping in rapper swagger. That is certainly a happy visual.
Now, about this lookbook: To present the possibilities of the set, Scott rounds up a cast of friends, including Pablo Olea, his best friend and Moschino’s head of global PR and communications. Of note, the images are also styled by Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, the former Vogue fashion director whose expertise lie glorious maximalism.
When worn all together, the collection may not be for the faint of heart. That’s not to say it would be impossible to enjoy. Our take: Wear one or two pieces and temper the rest of your clothes. Also, have fun.
